ABOUT Dr. Zia Hoque

Dr Zia Hoque has been practising medicine in Australia since 2008. Dr Zia has built his extensive career experience while working in hospitals and community health clinics in regional locations across New South Wales, including Newcastle, Tamworth, Armidale, Maitland, and Morisset. Prior to moving to Taree and Harrington in early 2018, Dr Zia worked as a general practitioner in Western Sydney.

Fluent in English, Hindi, and Bengali, Dr Zia’s compassionate nature and self-effacing sense of humour help him to establish strong doctor–patient relationships based on mutual trust, loyalty and understanding, and he is held in high regard by all who know him.

With extensive experience in treating mental health, drug and alcohol addiction, pain management, chronic disease management, children’s and women’s health, and Aboriginal health, Dr Zia is passionate about providing comprehensive care to his diverse patient base. He is familiar in assisting patients with workers’ compensation cases. He also has a Diploma in Childs Health from The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network.

Dr Zia is particularly enthusiastic about treating patients of any age with complex needs or disabilities, as well as children and young adults with developmental or behavioural issues, such as autism and intellectual delay. He takes great pride in empowering patients to make their own decisions and helping them to access additional support, including those eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Additionally, he specialises in helping patients with complex mental health needs and has extensive experience in psychotropics and psychotherapies.

Dr Zia believes his work as a general practitioner allows him to explore the intricacies of the human soul; its complexities, sufferings and pleasures. He has previously volunteered his expertise to Save the Children, the Fred Hollows Foundation, and UNICEF, and holds deep respect for the doctors, nurses and missionaries who devote themselves to easing the burden of human suffering.

Since moving to Australia, Dr Zia has embraced the Australian people and our way of life, deeply respecting the concept of ‘mateship’, and is humbled by the support he’s received from total strangers. He received Australian citizenship in 2009, and is looking forward to continuing his work supporting local communities and contributing to their prosperity and wellbeing for years to come.

Dr Zia currently practises at HealthHub Harrington and HealthHub Taree.
